2. Find and connect with your county emergency planning manager or group, local healthcare coalition, and your state VOAD
If you have not already done so, reach out to local and state organizations that handle disaster response in your area. See the handouts for this month for questions to ask and more tips.
3. Ask for a conversation about infant and young child feeding in emergencies
Using the knowledge, concepts, and tips in this month’s handouts, ask if you can meet to learn more about how they support families with babies in emergencies.
4. Complete the Evaluation

IYCF-E Preparedness Essentials
A 1-page doc with some common abbreviations used by emergency managers and a short reference list of essential elements of IYCF-E. QR codes link to additional resources. Created for USBC conference in partnership with Barton Dunant.
Emergency Plan IYCF-E Self-Assessment
This brief self-assessment will help emergency planners understand if their plan adequately addresses infant and young child feeding, and provides some guidance. Though originally designed for North Carolina, the self-assessment is still helpful for other states.
Resource List Guide for IYCF-E Connections
Suggestions on how to start connecting with resources, emergency managers, and making other blue sky contacts.
SAFE Support and Strategic Core Meetings*
Ongoing IYCF-E preparation & implementation support.
This is a quarterly support & strategy meeting for current & former SAFE training participants. The meeting is similar to a mastermind – inviting attendees to bring wins and challenges from their own efforts to implement policies and practices in their local area.
Meetings typically include updates from both the SAFE Team and participants, discussion on topics of interest, and breakouts for small group discussion, sharing of expertise, and brainstorming.
