When a parent is dealing with a house fire, a job loss, or a medical emergency, the baby still needs to eat, and the other children still need care. Keeping a family together and steady is part of keeping a baby safely fed.
The National Emergency Child Care Network provides free emergency child care for families in a disaster or a personal crisis. Families fill out a form online and trained volunteers come to them.
We have added them to our resource lists for families and the people who serve them:
- Resources for Families and Caregivers, for families anywhere
- safeinfantfeeding.org/durham, our full list for Durham families and home visitors, under “Staying together”
Building a resource list for your own community? Add them. Our guide to creating a resource list walks you through the rest.
Thank you to Silke Knebel and the National Emergency Child Care Network.
